2010 March 8: MN Twin Cities & Rochester: Air Quality Alert in Twin Cities, Rochester

Published : Monday, 08 Mar 2010, 10:27 AM CST

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air pollution alert for the Twin Cities and Rochester areas for Monday, March 8.
Dense, overnight fog and calm winds have contributed to the buildup of fine particulate in the air. Air quality conditions are expected to improve statewide on Tuesday as a low pressure system brings winds into the areas, according to the MPCA.
Those with respiratory or cardiovascular disease, young children and the elderly are the most sensitive to elevated levels of air pollution. The MPCA urges people at risk to postpone activities that lead to deep or accelerated breathing during the air quality alert.
Exposure to high levels of fine particles may cause chest pain, shortness of breath, and/or coughing and fatigue, even after air quality has improved. If you experience these symptoms, contact your doctor.
