The high pressure responsible for the wonderful spring weather over the past few days also is prompting some air quality concerns today for Allegheny County.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality action day until midnight for the southeastern portion of the county. The area affected includes Clairton, Glassport, Liberty, Lincoln and Port Vue.
Particulates in the atmosphere are expected to rise to unhealthy levels.
On air quality action days, young children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities.
