2010 March 31: AR Little Rock: Wood stove causes injury: Benefit account set up for burn victim
March 31, 2010
A benefit account has been established for Phillip Leatherman, 14, of Gassville, who is a patient in the burn unit at Arkansas Children’s Hospital at Little Rock. Leatherman suffered third-degree burns on 20 percent of his body in a fire Monday afternoon, according to Cathy Osheim, a friend of the family.
First Federal Bank is accepting donations to the benefit account in the name of Phillip D. Leatherman III. Donations can be made for the account at any First Federal Bank location, said Stacey Hough, assistant vice president.
Six Mountain Home firefighters were on the scene of the fire at 507 Western Hills Loop about an hour Monday after the 3:44 p.m. alarm. The residence is owned by Frank Pfiefer.
Fire department Lt. Eddie White said a minor in the household was lighting a fire in a wood stove in the living room when he was burned and was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center by his grandmother. A spokesman for BRMC said Leatherman was then transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Fire damage to the residence was termed light, the fire department report stated, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, White said.
